Frequently asked questions about the electronic signature

  • An electronic signature allows:

    • Guarantee the integrity of an electronic document
    • To identify the author, by analogy with the handwritten signature of a paper document
    • Non-repudiation, the signatory cannot deny having signed the document

An electronic signature meets the following requirements:

    • Be specific to the signatory
    • Be created by means that the signatory can keep under its exclusive control
    • Guarantee a link with the act to which it is attached
  • By subscribing to the Cloud Signature Platform (CSP), you have full access to the electronic signature APIs, and if necessary to the optional signature pages (Responsive Web Design, customizable to your colors and automatically adapting to tablets and smartphones).

You will find the documentation for each of the exposed webservices. In addition to a production environment, the CSP offer gives you access to an integration environment and a certification environment.

  • The CSP offer includes support to guide you through the integration process. However, additional packages are also available if you would like more support. Contact our team for more information.

  • With Docaposte APIs, you can create electronic signatures (individuals) and server stamps (legal entities) for the following file formats :

    • PAdES : PDF Advanced Electronic Signature

    . norme de l'ETSI TS 102 778 (parties 1 à 5)

    ETSI TS 102 778 standard (parts 1 to 5)

. allows you to sign documents in PDF format

. very suitable for the dematerialization of invoices, orders, etc.

. The viewer (usually Adobe Reader) integrates signature verification (the famous signature panel, accessible from the blue line at the top of a signed PDF)

    • XAdES: XML Advanced Electronic Signature

. set of extensions to the XML-DSig standard (ETSI TS 101 903) that make it compatible with the advanced electronic signature

. allows to sign documents in XML format

. the interest of this format is that you can sign parts of a document, without breaking the signature of another part already signed by another signatory for example

. widely used by the French administration

. is also used by Microsoft Office (from 2010)

    • CAdES: CMS Advanced Electronic Signature

. set of extensions to the Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS) signature standard making it compatible with the advanced electronic signature (ETSI TS 101 733)

. allows to sign CMS or S/MIME binary files (e-mails)

. particularly adapted to binary content because it does not require transformation (example: videos, images, programs, etc.)

. has the advantage of natively managing co-signatures of the same level

  • The advanced signature implies a verification of the identity of your signatory before signing. This is done either face-to-face or remotely using a verification service.

Docaposte has remote identity verification systems with paths that meet the requirements of different levels of advanced signing: simple verification of the authenticity of an ID, or with secure biometric verification that the applicant's face matches the face on the ID.

Docaposte also offers La Poste Digital Identity, the only digital identity that is certified to the substantial security level, i.e., with the physical face-to-face equivalent.

  • The Docaposte CSP solution allows you to perform simple or advanced eIDAS-compliant signatures on a case-by-case basis, depending on your business challenges and the type of signatory identity verification implemented.

Our EN 314 411-1/-2 certified Docaposte Certification Authorities (CAs) enable the issuance of LCP, NCP+ and QCP template certificates. The Docaposte CSP solution also enables electronic stamps (legal entities) to be created with certificates of the same template.

  • An Electronic Seal is the equivalent for a legal entity of what an electronic signature is for a natural person; an electronic seal guarantees the origin and integrity of an electronic document.

The Docaposte CSP solution allows you to create simple or advanced eIDAS-compliant stamps on a case-by-case basis, depending on the business challenges and applicable regulations. Our EN 314 411-1/-2 certified Docapost Certification Authorities (CAs) enable the issuance of LCP, NCP+ and QCP template seal certificates.

  • The recipient of an electronically signed document can not only verify the integrity of a document with electronic signatures and stamps, but also whether the certificates are valid and have been issued by Certification Authorities that meet business or regulatory requirements.

Docaposte CSP is used, for example, to validate financial flows that comply with EBICS or SwiftNet FileAct protocol or to validate the origin and integrity of software and parameter files embedded in aircraft. It also generates a proof of validation, typically stored in an evidence-based archive.

  • Docaposte offers its eSignature solutions as standard in its highly secure, French-hosted, RGPD-compliant private cloud, ensuring rapid deployment, scalability, continuous functional upgrades, and ease of maintenance for our customers.

In addition, Docaposte can offer on-premise signature solutions when specific regulatory, industry, or sovereign constraints prevent data hosting or processing outside the public or private entity.
